Challenge Beach
24 x 48 oil on hardboard
I think this is the final for this painting. It's for the challenge. If you look close you can tell that the sand has a wet look, which I made with a glaze. Each figure took an hour and I didn't do very well on the lady. The dude and kid came out well. I even put in a gull on top of the rocks land a few in the sky if you can find them.

Apple folds #8
6x6 oil on hardboard
Still at it. I think this is closer to reality. The front drop of the cloth looks better.

challenge Sushi
5.5 x 7 oil on canvi paper
This was for the Challenge. Sushi, and i tried three different times to get it to look other than student work. I used larger brushes, so that might be something to it and i used drier tech on making the rice grains. I gave it a go.
Apple folds #7
6x6 oil on hardboard
Still working on the folds. I made these shadows lighter. That seemed to be some of the problem with the past few. The folds that are at the quarter up and really on a downward edge but still in the same light. I think that should have been dropped out of the direct light to show more downward drop of the cloth, and a stronger edge at the junction of the top plane and front.

Apple folds #5
This below. is reworked to see if i could make the folds more real
6x6 oil on hardboard
I'm thinking that the shadow is too dark. Also the crest of the right fold should be a halftone and it's too sharp. I'll get them tomorrow.

Apple with folds #3
6x6 oil on hardboard
Still trying on the folds. I'm thinking even though i value matched the two shadows of the folds, maybe is should really go with just a subtle grayish, lighter value. hmmmm. I see the softer edge move to the dark shadow ending with a hard sharp edge. Mine don't look like folds though.
Apple with folds #2
6x6 oil on hardboard
Need to keep at it until i get it right. Maybe it's the angle that i'm looking from. I doubt it, there must be something. My set up lamp burned out just as i finished so it was a sigh to pause and think about it all. I was squinting on these past two.
Apple with folds
10x8 oil on hardboard
Working on painting folds. This seems way off. I would say i wasn't painting what i see. Dang!

Warm Bass Marsh
6x6 oil on hardboard
This is another view of Bass Harbor Marsh. Most folks paint facing the other way and in an earlier post I did some. Studio painting.

Spring and oranges
6x6 oil on hardboard
I don't think that the flowers stand out well from the background. The cup is light green. The stamens had little red caps at the ends. So i'll go with a dark back ground next time. The flowers are bunched together, and i only took a few out this time. If I mass in the flower bunch in a cool shadow color and then put in white petals, it might come out better.

Two oranges and blue vase
6x6 oil on hardboard
Not a bad effort for today. I was trying to paint a fold in the stage cloth, didn't work there in front of the orange.
Here are the thumb nail sketches for the Baptist church painting from the other day. The church is in down town Dallas over by the Museum. The cars were the details that got me going beyond my skill set so far.
