Saw this horse barn. There wasn't a door on this side.

Warm Fields

8x10 oil

Warm day yesterday, along the walking trail looking towards the river.

Nuevo sunset

8x10 oil

A sunset down in Nuevo Vallarta. The horizon line was a gray cloud layer and the water up to the beach wasn't reflecting the sun and sky colors. The lagoon reflected these colors though.

Causeway

8x10 oil

Here's looking at the sun set from the causeway. I think the chroma of the colors is too high. The whole thing doesn't look good.

Marsh sun set

8x10 oil

This one got away from me. Couldn't get the vision to show up on the panel.

Chilly

6x8 oil

This is how it feels today. It's only 46 with drizzle out side.

geometric

6x6 oil

Just working on matching colors. This is just folded paper and my little box. I couldn't get that portrait to work out.

November 29th

8x10 oil

How the field looked today. This is just down the road.

Road side #2

8x10 oil

This is down the road and to the left of the last painting. This whole field and just the lone tree there.

Road side #1

8x10 oil

Just checking things out on the side of the road.

Holiday

6x8 oil

Felt a chill in the air.

Grazing at dusk

9x12 oil

Something at dusk. Not grazing rhinos though.

8x10 oil

Saw these red berries on a bush and thought that they might be good for a little painting. I suppose that i should work on making the leaves a little more defined.

Little gecko looking for a snack about 4 inches long (10cm)

Airport travelers

16x20 oil

This is for the current challenge. I said forget trying to make all those little folds and what not and go for some shapes that match some of the ref photo. I didn't look at the other folks take on the subject, and maybe i should have. :)

Apple and Pink tube

6x8 oil on canvas

These canvas panels show a glair in the weave when taking the photo.
My PowerPoint teacher got carted off in the ambulance to the hospital with the flu. So no class these past two nights. Is my throat feeling scratchy?

November apple

6x6 oil

I had the lone apple there, so he gets to pose. The reflective spot on the dark side of the apple seems a little too bright.

Travel lift

9x12 oil

Messing up on this one. This is the Hinkley travel lift in Southwest harbor. Couldn't get it to look loose and natural.

City stroll

12x16 oil

Just trying out a city theme.

Cow in Soda Springs

9x12 oil on canvas panel

So sad looking cows there, or could be rhynos. This is about 200 yards to the right of the last post

Sunday, October 18, 2009

Soda Springs barn

9x12 oil on canvas panel

This is the other side of the road from the picture in the last post. These flowers were along the fence line on this side.

Road side flowers

This is a field of flowers I saw today while looking for nice views. This is about 20 minutes west of Ft. Worth.

Apple blocks cup

6x8 oil

That apple has poor value. I got behind on that value, and couldn't bring it around. I did wipe it off twice but.....Must be tough going for the paint today.

Apple and pink

6x6 oil on hardboard

This is an apple. I guess the photo washed out more of the red in the light side of the apple and it looks too yellow. The pink cylinder is the same color as the box shape used in my other paintings.

Just Bottled fruit

8x10 oil on wood

Trying to get the paint warmed up. Shouldn't have used a trasparent olive colored bottle though. Really humid today.

Challenge Rooftops

9x12 oil on canvas

This is my take on the challenge. It's been rainy and overcast here since thursday.

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Field mill

9x12 oil on canvas

Down the road from the last landscape painting. I was going to go out that way today, but the weather was gloomy with out shadows. Next time.

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Cesar "planes of the head"

5x7 oil

These are paintings of "the planes of the face" plaster cast. The second is a little blurry in the photo. They're both the same size, just cropped a little off. The second has the cast rotated to the light a little bit. Different pose.

Marsh grass

6x6 oil

Little guy standing there at the edge, his buddies taking off.

Country fields

9x12 oil on canvas

This is looking the other way, down the road from the last painting. Who thought that school work would get in the way of a little painting? The horizon was really this hazy.

Monday, September 28, 2009

Country road

9x12 oil

Wanted to get the shadows that were cast across the road. The road did lean over to one side, this looks a little too much. Also show the slope of the hill with the cows. Don't say rhynos. This was 7:15p Sunday.

Lunch in Stonington

8x10 oil

Lunch time in Stonington, Maine.

Leaving Ship harbor

12x16 oil on hardborad

Some folks leaving ship harbor. The water had a strong green tinge to it. This little tree needed to go to the gym.

No Sail

16x20 oil on hardboard

Foggy day, stay in harbor.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

cow shapes

Playing with cow shapes, but they look a little rhino like.

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Westlake pond

9x12 oil on canvas panel

This is a little tanque/pond about 10 miles as the crow flies from me. Not a single cow in the field on this side of the road, but there were some long horns at the school yard down the road. The tree on the right is one of those oaks that have a mushroom shape, but that tree by the water looked like it had died but then some green shoots sprouted at the ends of the broke off limbs. About every model of porsche was breathing down my neck while i was putting around this area.

Lobster pots

9x12 oil on canvas panel

This is the fourth painting in a row that didn't come out well. I scrapped the first three. I'll have to check the old timers to see how they made it work. No worries though.

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Tossing stones in the fjord

9x12 oil on canvas panel

Worked on some figures for this one. That's a life preserver that the kid in yellow is wearing. Have to touch up the water line on the left there, weave it into the water a bit.

Monday, September 14, 2009

Hay barn

8x10 oil on wood

Just a hay barn off in the distance.

Saturday, September 12, 2009

2 green and 1 red

8x10 oil on wood

More fruit for Saturday night.

Failing barn

8x10 oil on wood

Just a barn falling in on it's self. That gate fencing is made of metal and looked like it was being taken down for parts else where on the farm.

Thursday, September 10, 2009

reworked country side

Just rethinking the last post and reworking it some. Still think i should have made the fields lighter.

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Country lane

8x10 oil on wood

Not really feeling good about this effort. The road drops away from vied down hill and i'm not sure if it reads well just by changing the road width. I really wanted to make the tree look real and I don't feel good about that either. Should have made the close grass values higher and richer. I'll get it next time.

Here are some more of those purple thistles.

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Farm barn

8x10 oil on wood

This is a barn a ways north of the last landscape painting.

Monday, September 7, 2009

Cup cake challenge

8x10 oil on wood

Here's my take on the current challenge. I thought that spritzing paint on for the sprinkles, but i don't think it came out so well. I put on a think impasto layer for the frosting, then carved into it with colored brush work.

"V" Gate

8x10 oil on wood

I saw this gate this afternoon. I had a Circle with a "V" in the center. A little hard to see against the sky.

Some cattle down the road from the painting. One looks like a Appaloosa.

Here are some thistles i saw down the road from the cattle. Never saw them this intense, most times they are washed out purple.
